Facebook announced Friday that it intends to consider welcoming former President Donald Trump back on its platform on Jan. 7, 2023. The news follows on the heels of Trump shuttering his own blog, reportedly (at least in part) due to low readership.
The company, which was lectured in May over Trump’s suspension by the so-called Oversight Board that it created and funds, couched Friday’s move in terms of “accountability” and “transparency.”
“When the suspension is eventually lifted,” reads a blog post announcing the news, “there will be a strict set of rapidly escalating sanctions that will be triggered if Mr. Trump commits further violations in future, up to and including permanent removal of his pages and accounts.” Read more…
