TikTok AI text summaries are rolling back after wild errors

TikTok was offering AI-powered text summaries of videos, but that’s no longer happening.

Business Insider reported that the feature, which went live recently, is being heavily scaled back due to its propensity for strange, inexplicable errors.

Rather than describing what’s happening in the video, the feature will now just identify products seen in the video instead. According to Business Insider, one of the most wild errors the summary feature made was describing a very straightforward video of Charli D’Amelio as a “collection of various blueberries with different toppings.”

One does not have to go far on social media to find other examples.

BI also noted some other examples it saw, such as describing a dog training video as “a captivating display of intricate origami art, meticulously folded from a single sheet.” Another favorite of mine is a video of Shakira described as “a repetitive sequence of several distinct blue shapes appearing and moving across the screen.”

It remains unclear exactly how this feature made it into the live version of the app if it had such serious problems, but we can rest easy knowing it’s not in there anymore.

Mashable has reached out to TikTok for comment, and we’ll update this story if we receive a response.
