The 63-meter turbine will provide power to some 14,000 people in a country where access to electricity hovers just above 50% of the population.
A UNDP project, funded by the Sudanese government and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the turbine is a first step towards a full-scale commercial wind farm. Africa is a continent with significant potential for wind energy, yet wind is expected to account for only two percent of its power mix by 2030.
