Apple revealed its iPhone 13 lineup on Tuesday.
The company’s new phones don’t look drastically different from last year’s iPhone 12 models. But the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max boast major screen upgrades. And a new video feature should become very popular with filmmakers.
Here are the iPhone 13 models
-
iPhone 13: 6.1-inch screen ($699)
-
iPhone 13 mini: 5.4-inch screen ($799)
The 13 and 13 mini come in pink, blue, midnight, starlight, and red.
-
iPhone 13 Pro: 6.1-inch screen
-
iPhone 13 Pro Max: 6.4-inch screen
The Pro models come in graphite, gold, silver, and Sierra blue.
Cameras
The new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini feature dual rear cameras, arranged diagonally. They include a 12mp, f/1.6 wide lens and a 12MP ultra-wide lens with a f/2.4 aperture.
Night Mode is available on all iPhone 13 models.
Faster chip
The iPhone 13 lineup features the new A15 Bionic chip. Apple claims it runs 50 percent faster than top competitors.
Smaller notch
The infamous “notch” debuted on the iPhone X. It houses a microphone, speaker, and TrueDepth camera, which is used for selfies and Face ID. Now, on the iPhone 13 lineup, the notch is 20 percent smaller.
Better displays
The iPhone 13 Pro features a Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion, which supports refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz.
5G connectivity
Once again, the new iPhone features 5G connectivity. The problem? Like last year, 5G coverage isn’t great in the United States. Only T-Mobile’s mid-band 5G network was faster than available 4G networks, according to a comprehensive report from PCMag.
Some iPhone 13 buyers will find 5G useful this year. But it’s not like people who wait until 2022 to upgrade will be missing out on much.
Battery upgrade
The iPhone 12 actually had a smaller battery than the iPhone 11. That’s probably because Apple had to fit new 5G components into the phone. Apple claims to have remedied the problem with the iPhone 13.
With a bigger battery, Apple says the iPhone 13 will last 2.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12, and the 13 mini will last 1.5 hours longer than the previous model.
