Save $110: As of Sept. 10, the 50-inch version of the new Amazon Omni 4K Smart TV is 22% off — or $399.99 — when you pre-order it ahead of its October release.
In very typical Amazon fashion, Amazon has decided it wants to make its own version of yet another product.
Instead of the third-party Fire TV edition TVs that we’ve known for years, Amazon has bypassed the likes of Insignia and Toshiba to create the Amazon Fire TV Omni.
This new line of 4K TVs is expected to offer the best Alexa-powered entertainment experience yet — and you can see what it’s all about for a fraction of the price. Pre-ordering the 50-inch Omni secures the “introductory price” of $399.99, which is sweet 22% drop from the $509.99 that it’ll be upon release on Oct. 27. (The length of the introductory period is unclear, so don’t wait if you want it.)
Anyone with an old Fire TV knows that using Amazon’s software on a non-Amazon TV isn’t always seamless. The interface can be laggy, and picking up the voice remote to make a TV show request can take more time than just clicking. The Omni fixes this with Alexa, which is so actually hands-free that you probably won’t notice that the remote has been lost in the couch for days. Turning the TV on and off, adjusting volume, switching inputs, and control of other devices can simply be done… out loud, like with an Echo.
Alexa on the Omni also understands much more natural content-related commands, like “Turn on the baseball game,” without you having to specify which streaming app it’s on. That’s major.
